12 dengue cases in Canacona, health dept creates awareness

POINGUINIM: Twelve Canacona residents have tested positive for dengue, and one for malaria, sanitary inspector Pranay Naik said.
Blood samples of over 100 residents were sent to Hospicio, Margao, for testing for the vector-borne disease. Of the 12 cases that tested positive, Naik said seven were locals and five were migrants. The seven locals had recently gone out of the state and could have caught the infection there, he said.

As a precautionary measure, staff of the health centre have been visiting villagers conducting awareness programmes.Naik said awareness drives will be conducted in schools for students and teachers till August.
The symptoms of dengue are headache, vomiting, nausea, fever, diarrhoea, rash on body and eye pain. Treatment usually does not require hospitalisation, he said.
