Pilgrims’ bodies handed over to relatives

The bodies of the two of the five pilgirims, who died of suspected heat stroke while travelling from Agra to Coimbatore on Kerala Express train on Monday, were brought to Coimbatore on Thursday.

The bodies of Pachaiah (80) from Ketti in the Nilgiris and Theyvanai (74) from Ondipudur in Coimbatore arrived at the Coimbatore railway station on a train bound for Thiruvananthapuram. The embalmed bodies were brought on a special coach.

The police and relatives of the deceased accepted the bodies, which were sent to Coimbatore with the assistance of the Lions Club International.

On Wednesday, bodies of three other pilgrims died in the tragedy Kaladevi (58) from Ondipudur, Subbaiah (87) and Balakrishnan (67) from Coonoor were brought to Coimbatore via flight and handed over to the relatives.

While Kaladevi died as she boarded Kerala Express train bound for Thiruvananthapuram at Agra, others died when the train reached near Jhansi in Uttarpradesh.
