The officer had reportedly hinted at relinquishing his post

Central Police Station Circle Inspector V.S. Navas has been reported missing since Thursday morning, reportedly after an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police allegedly abused him over the wireless set on Wednesday night.

The Ernakulam South police registered a man-missing case on a complaint filed by his wife. The officer was residing at the police quarters at Thevara. He was posted at the Central Station following poll-related reshuffle from Mararikulam.

The ACP had allegedly abused him personally too over the wireless set, which was reportedly heard by personnel on night duty. Mr. Navas was under tremendous stress following the incident.

The missing officer had also reportedly hinted at relinquishing his post and even returned his wireless set and official SIM card to the police station before he went missing. Mr. Navas had a good track record and was credited for being a straightforward and efficient officer, sources said.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sakhare, IG, who took over as the new District Police Chief (Kochi City) on Thursday said every effort was being made to trace the officer. Instructions have been issued to Special Branch, Shadow Police, and other units.

“Reports of an argument between him [Navas] and a senior officer have come to my notice. They too will be investigated,” Mr. Sakhare said.

A special team led by DCP G. Poonguzhali is trying to trace Mr. Navas, who was reportedly seen last at Kayamkulam.
