West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said, ” Blood donation is a noble cause that helps save lives. ”
“Today is World #BloodDonorDay. Blood donation is a noble cause that helps save lives,” Ms Banerjee posted on her social networking page on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day.
“The #Bangla Govt recently launched an app named ‘Jeevan Shakti’ that will provide information regarding the availability of blood in government blood banks across Bangla,” she added.
The state government has recently launched an app named ‘Jeevan Shakti’ that will provide information regarding the availability of blood in government blood banks across Bengal.
The citizen-centric app has been developed by the State Health and Family Welfare Department.
The mobile app will prove extremely handy for patients and their relatives, who will be able to trace donors and find out the availability of blood at the government-run blood banks.
The main features of the app are a list of donors in the State, along with their names, mobile numbers, addresses and the blood groups they belong to.
Interested persons can enroll themselves in the app as potential donors.
Every few seconds, someone, somewhere, needs blood. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of lives every year.
Every year, on June 14, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
Blood is an important resource, both for planned treatments and urgent interventions. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures.
Blood is also vital for treating the wounded during emergencies of all kinds (natural disasters, accidents, armed conflicts, etc.) and has an essential, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care.
A blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity is a key component of an effective health system.
Ensuring safe and sufficient blood supplies requires the development of a nationally coordinated blood transfusion service based on voluntary non-remunerated blood donations.
However, in many countries, blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available, while also ensuring its quality and safety.
