Window did not have grills, says father in his complaint

A Class X student died after she allegedly fell from the fourth floor of her school building at Nagole around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at Nagarjuna High School in Sai Nagar Colony, minutes after the victim, Nalla Veevika, and her younger brother Nalla Laxmignanashesendra and cousin Nalla Komali, reached there in a school bus, police said.

According to L.B. Nagar police, Veevika fell from the window of her classroom. Her father Nalla Narsing Rao alleged she died of negligence of the school management, who failed to fix an iron grill to the window.

“We are yet to find out how she fell from the window as there were no eye-witnesses in the classroom,” said SI V. Ravi Kumar. The girl was taken to Kamineni Hospital, where she was declared dead. Later, the body was shifted to OGH.

“There is no proper explanation from the management,” Veevika’s uncle N. Jagadeshwar said.

Narsing Rao is a real estate agent and Veevika’s mother Anuradha is a homemaker from Hanuman Nagar in Thattiannaram village in Abdullapurmet mandal. The victim was the third child of the couple. Mr. Rao said that his daughter and son left for school around 7.30 a.m. and at 8.48 a.m., he got a call from school chairman Venkateshwar Reddy.

Based on his complaint, police registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. Veevika’s school bag and lunch box were found inside the classroom. Neither did the police rule out a suicide case, nor deny the possibility of foul play. “We are analysing the video footage of the school and surrounding areas,” police said.
