Lucknow: She exploited both a child and sympathies of the people for months before finally landing in the police net.
A woman was arrested from
Indiranagar on Thursday for forcing a six-year-old girl to beg on the streets after putting on make-up of a burnt face and fake wounds on her.
The accused, Sharda, is a resident of Jankipuram.
“Even a
cannula was found on the right hand of the child. Fake gel was applied to make it look like her face was burnt. Red ink was used for blood on her forehead on which bandages were applied,” said Sangeeta Sharma, a member of the child welfare committee (CWC). She said a team was counselling the girl to know about her address and family. On Thursday, Sharda and the girl were spotted by residents of Ishwarpuri Colony in Sector D, Indiranagar. The woman was begging for money, showing the wounds of the girl who she claimed was her daughter.
One of the residents noticed them and informed Childline. Members of Childline rescued the girl and took her to CWC, said Brijesh Singh, SHO Ghazipur. The minor told CWC that Sharda was not her mother. Sharda was then arrested for employing a child. “We are interrogating the woman to find out from where she got the girl child,” he added.
