At least 30 students of St Joseph’s College for Women visited USS John P. Murtha, in the city on Thursday and interacted with Katherine Haddad, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad.

These girls are the beneficiaries of English ACCESS Micro-scholarship programme being organised by the US Consulate General.

Through this programme, participants improve their English language skills for professional development and enhance their critical-thinking ability.

The students enjoyed taking selfies with the sailors and the ship crew.

“I could only have dreamed visiting such a huge ship. I wish I could spend more time here,” Challa Navya, a student said after the visit.

Another student Farah Chisti said it was easy sitting at home and watching war ships in action in movies. “The real heroes are these Navy people who sacrifice so much to ensure national and global security,” she said.

Sailors make vases

Meanwhile, 25 U.S. Navy Sailors took part in a vocational training programme with differently abled people, organised by Prajwalavani Welfare Society here on Thursday. The sailors had made flower vases with waste plastic water bottles, silk thread jewellery.

The differently abled people said that it was a very good experience to take part in a training programme with the naval sailors. US Consul General Katherine Hadda was present on the occasion.
