Condemning the recent attack on a doctor at a hospital in Kolkata by the relatives of a patient, doctors staged a demonstration in front of Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital on Friday.

They urged the Union government to pass a legislation with stringent provisions to protect the doctors, hospitals and the staff from attacks and raised slogans demanding protection in workplace.

Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association’s Tirunelveli district president Rafiq, State secretary of Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Association Francis Roy and others spoke.

Led by Indian Medical Association’s Thoothukudi chapter president R. Arul Prakash, doctors of Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital, interns and postgraduates staged a protest at Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital.
