The Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to extend the Amma Vodi scheme to students studying in government schools only.
In a letter addressed to Mr. Jagan on Thursday, CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna said the Amma Vodi scheme would help in improving the literacy and bring down the dropout rate. But, the scheme should not end as a boon to the private and corporate schools. The parents used to send their children to government schools a few years ago.
The scenario has changed with the mushrooming of private and corporate schools.
The highest pass percentage and better performance were registered in government schools compared to private and corporate schools. The government should make a note of it and encourage government schools, he added.
