Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan inaugurated a newly built canteen at the District Police Office on Alagar Koil Road here on Friday.

The facility is set to be of mutual benefit for police personnel working at the DPO, ministerial staff, visitors, general public and petitioners.

The canteen will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will serve vada, idli and pongal for breakfast, variety rice for lunch and tea/coffee and snacks at evening, apart from a range of organic food items.

“We have tied up with a cottage unit making home-made organic products. The products will be displayed and sold at the canteen, as an attempt to encourage the concept of healthy eating,” said Mr. Manivannan.

He added that the rates will be nominal and affordable. “The main entrance to the canteen will be from inside the DPO's campus while a small entrance will give access from the main road. There is also a parking space nearby.”

“We will be serving quality food at a nominal price. The menu is yet to be finalised. We also have plans to display some handicrafts and hand-made bags etc,” said K.G. Narasimhavarman, ADSP, who presided over the function.
