Ludhiana: While raising the demand for not shifting the city bus stand to
Transport Nagar, transporters from the area met the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) officials on Thursday. The LIT had issued a public notice to transporters in the area for producing proofs of their ownership in a particular land kept reserved by LIT. The transporters have been given 15 days to prove their ownership of that land.
As per LIT officials, at a distance of 100 metres from the national highway, the trust possessed 28.5 acres of land, which was left vacant. Another 10 acres of land was meant for parking purposes. There is a proposal to shift the bus stand to this 38.5 acres of land in Transport Nagar. But gradually, structures have come up over this land. Recently, LIT had issued a public notice to transporters for putting their claims, along with documentary proofs.
On Thursday, a group of transporters met LIT officials and requested them not to shift the bus stand to Transport Nagar. They said if authorities wanted to shift the bus stand to Transport Nagar, they should develop another Transport Nagar at some other location. They also claimed the move would reduce parking space in the area. The transporters said the condition of not allowing construction had been reduced from 95 metres to 5 metres in case of scheduled roads and national highways. They submitted 60 objections with the trust officials.
LIT estate officer Harpreet Sandhu said they had accepted the documents and proofs of some transporters, which would be scanned now. He said other transporters were asking for some more time to produce more documents, so they were given another 15 days for the same. Sandhu said the decision to shift the bus stand to Transport Nagar is to be taken at the deputy commissioner’s level, and they would report the matter to the DC’s office.
