CHANDIGARH: A petition relating to the
death of a two-year-old child has been filed in the high court of Punjab and Haryana seeking direction to register a case under section 304A of the IPC against a deputy commissioner and other concerned officers.
The directions have been sought for causing the death of
Fatehveer Singh, of Bhagwan Pura village in Punjab’s Sangrur district, on account of “negligence, incompetence, lack of supervision and inadequate steps” to protect the child as well as failure of the state to take essential steps to stop the “recurrence of such tragedies”.
This is the second petition that has been filed before the HC on the same issue. Both the petitions would come up for hearing on Monday.
The petitioner in this case, Sunam-based lawyer Ravneet Singh Joshi, has also sought directions to the state to formulate a consolidated policy for detailed safety protocol systems (DSPS) to prevent such incidents in future.
Further a direction has been sought from the high court to order a judicial inquiry which is to be conducted within a timeframe by the judges of the high court. The petition seeks adequate compensation to the family of the victim.
