Nagpur: Chaitali Jambhulkar, 16, allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at her residence close to Hassan Garage near Mohan Nagar. Sources in the family said Chaitali took the drastic step after her father chided her for scoring around 48% in the SSC examination, result of which were announced last week.
Chaitali had consumed poison on June 8 shortly after the result was declared online. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital where she succumbed on Wednesday. She is the third student to commit suicide after the SSC result.
Sadar police have registered accidental death. The post-mortem was conducted at the hospital on Thursday.
Family sources said Chaitali, elder of two siblings, was pulled up by father Kiran, owning a business of decoration items, for the low score.
Chaitali initially misled her mother Preeti stating she had consumed petrol. A source in the family said doctors were late to realize that she had consumed pesticide and not petrol, due to which the treatment differed. “Chaitali did not leave behind any suicide note,” the source said.
Family sources also stated that someone from the neighbourhood had tried to cheer up Chaitali by sending her a message on her cell phone that she had secured 84% but by then she had already consumed the poison.
