AGRA: Thirty eight-year-old lawyer
Darvesh Yadav, who had been elected the first woman chairperson of Bar Council of UP three days ago, died after being shot by another lawyer,
Manish Sharma, on Agra district court premises on Wednesday. Sharma also shot himself and is critical.
The incident took place around 2.30pm on Wednesday when Darvesh was being felicitated by Agra’s lawyer fraternity for being elected to the coveted post.
Motive behind murder not clear yetWitnesses said Sharma, who had close ties with Darvesh for over a decade, pumped three bullets from his licensed pistol into her head, chest and stomach while standing at the entrance door of advocate Arvind Kumar Mishra’s chamber inside the court premises.
Later in the evening, Darvesh’s nephew, Sunny Yadav, lodged an FIR in which he named Manish, his wife Vandana and another advocate Vineet Gulecha. The three have been booked for murder, criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation.
CM Yogi Adityanath has directed the Agra DM and SSP to investigate the reason for the incident. He also asked law minister Brijesh Pathak to visit Agra to inquire about it.
In the bar council election held in Allahabad on Sunday, Darvesh had tied with Hari Shankar Singh for the chairperson’s seat. It was then decided that the two would hold the post for a period of six months each. Darvesh had the first go and became the first woman chairperson of
UP Bar Council. Lawyers at Agra court said Sharma had campaigned for Darvesh in the election but were unable to provide any explanation for his extreme act.
The FIR lodged by Darvesh’s nephew says: “Earlier, Manish Sharma’s wife Vandana Sharma had threatened to kill my aunty and told her not to ask for money, car or jewellery which she (Darvesh) had given to him. The accused Manish had also encroached upon my aunt’s chamber in Agra court.”
Speaking to TOI, Sunny, who is also pursuing a career in law, said, “Due to jealousy, Manish, Vandana and Gulecha killed my aunt. My aunt was a good woman, who had helped Manish to grow in his career. He was a mere clerk, but my aunt helped him financially every time he needed help.”.
