KOLKATA: The
Calcutta High Court will hear on July 2 former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar’s appeal for quashing the
CBI notice of May 22 that had asked him to appear before the investigating agency in the
Saradha scam.
Kumar had moved the HC’s vacation bench on June 4 and obtained an order that until July 10, CBI would not take any coercive action against him provided he cooperated with the agency’s probe team.
On Wednesday, CBI counsel Y Z Dastur mentioned the matter before the bench of Justice Asha Arora for fixing the date since it had been heard earlier by a vacation bench. The judge decided to hear the case on July 2.
In another case, Justice Arora stayed for eight weeks the hearing of a defamation suit filed by Kumar against Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP leader in charge of Bengal. In 2017, Kumar had filed the defamation case as
Vijayvargiya had allegedly made offensive comments against the IPS officer relating to Saradha scam.
