Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition with special Alexa ‘skills’ announced

“The new Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition is essentially a colourful version of the third-gen Echo Dot smart speaker”

Amazon has refreshed the lineup of its kid-friendly smart speaker with the Echo Dot Kids Edition launch back in its home market the US. The speaker has the same form factor as the third-gen Echo Dot speaker, sports rainbow strips or blue shade on the sides, and includes a free one-year subscription to Amazon’s FreeTime Unlimited service. The “all-new” Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition is also touted to have a two-year guarantee from the manufacturer.

The Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition has been priced at $69.99 (~Rs 4,850); however, it’s up for grabs currently at only $49.99 (~Rs 3,468) in the US. The speaker can be pre-ordered now, with the sale starting from June 26th in the country. The company hasn’t announced the speaker availability outside the US market, including India, yet.

As for the specifications, the Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition doesn’t come with a protective case like its predecessor; instead, it sports a fabric design as its non-kid-friendly sibling. The speaker is loaded with FreeTime Unlimited that gives children access to entertainment and educational content, including more than 1,000 Audible books, thousands of songs, as well as games and special Alexa “skills.”

The speaker has parental controls where parents/ guardians can set daily limits for all activities and keep a tab on what their kids are accessing. The Kids Edition also lets you filter mature content like explicit songs from select music services. Despite that, Alexa on the new Echo Dot Kids Edition packs the tricks up its sleeve as on the rest of Amazon’s standard Echo lineup. It can give you weather reports, solve most of your queries, set timers, or alarms, and the whole voice-controlled features.
