BMW Unveils 2020 3 Series Wagon We Won’t Get in Canada

BMW’s 3 Series was given a full overhaul for the 2019 model-year, and as is often the case with the German automaker, this year sees the introduction of variants of the model. So it is that the company has lifted the veil (online) on the wagon version of the 3 Series.

Sadly, however, BMW also confirmed it will not be bringing the 3 Series Touring across the Atlantic to our market. If you have your heart set on a long-roof version of the 3 Series, you’ll have to settle for a 2019.

Esthetically, the new Touring model is a winner, with a bold front end leading the way. Interestingly, the model has lost weight, which bodes well for its driving dynamics.

In back, cargo capacity can reach 1,500 litres, which is more than many SUVs on the market. What’s more, all-wheel drive is available as an option, making this a very compelling product. But it’s all for nought for Canadians, as the ongoing explosion in popularity of SUVs makes of wagons an increasingly endangered species in North America.

Confirmation that the 3 Series Touting would not be sold here came from Rob Dexter of BMW Canada..

That doesn’t mean, however, that the model will absolutely, positively NEVER return to North America. We’ve already seen models disappear from BMW’s Canadian lineup, only to reappear a few years later.

If consumers and BMW fans make their interest known in sufficient numbers, nothing prevents the company from changing its mind.

Otherwise, buyers can turn to the X Series, another interesting option.
