Under the mechanism, issued by the power ministry, a generating company is allowed to establish or procure renewable energy generating capacity anywhere in the country and utilise such renewable capacities for supplying power against existing commitments.
“There were certain issues which required resolution for smooth implementation of the mechanism. Power minister has given appropriate directions to resolve such issues,” an official statement said. The meeting was attended by power secretary A K Bhalla apart from senior officials from the power ministry, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), NTPC, and Central Electricity Regulatory Commission.
During the meeting, Singh said that the government was focusing on the growth of the renewable energy sector. The minister also highlighted India’s commitments at international fora and said all the necessary policy support should be provided for encouraging renewable energy capacity addition for energy security and environmental protection.
