Driving around in Mysuru? Beware, there are many black spots on the roads

With accidents on the rise at certain locations in namma Mysuru, authorities have identified these as black spots - roads that are prone to accidents - to alert motorists to exercise caution while passing by these areas.
Currently, Mysuru now has as many as 12 black spots dotted across the city. There are areas near the APMC Market Road and Ganapathy Sachidananda Ashrama on Ooty Road, Devegowda Circle on Bannur road, Bogadi Ring Road junction, near Sardar Vallabhai Patel Nagar, Ring Road junction on KRS Road, the stretch between Siddalingapura and Kalasthawadi and the Hootagalli Junction on Ring Road, are among the 12 roads where people have lost their life in recent times.

Speaking about the efforts to reduce fatal road accidents, Mysuru city police commissioner, KT Balakrishna says, “We have tried to create awareness about the dangers at these black spots by erecting boards requesting motorists to drive slow, while also highlighting that these are accident-prone zones where speed limits have to be followed. We have also put up barricades to slow down vehicles on these road. We are monitoring the CCTV camera feed from these road junctions to keep a vigil on any traffic violations.”
President of Mysuru Grahakara Parishat, Bhamy V Shenoy, adds, “While it is the duty of every citizen to abide by the law, cops should be impartial in enforcing rules, irrespective of who the offender is. I have witnessed several incidents where people with 'influential backgrounds' are allowed to violate rules without any punitive action. The onus is on citizens to follow traffic rules, follow minimum speed in city areas and ride with helmets to avoid fatalities. The road engineering works also plays a key role in preventing tragic incidents. Speed breakers at crucial spots are a must, along with boards alerting motorists of an upcoming hump.”
