Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao, who won the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board’s (TNPCB) Green Award – 2018 while serving as Madurai Collector, received the award from Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the Secretariat in Chennai on Thursday.
The TNPCB gives Green Award every year to three Collectors, three Industries and three Colleges/Universities/Centre of Excellence in appreciation of their activities towards environmental protection and enhancing the green cover.
Mr. Rao was one of the three Collectors who won the award for the year 2018. The TNPCB had assessed his activities toward environment protection on various parameters such as control of industrial pollution, rainwater harvesting, plastic waste and solid waste managements, sewage disposal, green belt development, cleaning water bodies, promotion of awareness of environmental issues and encouraging use of eco-friendly products.
Minister for Environment K.C. Karuppannan, Minister for Rural Industries P. Benjamin, Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture K. Pandiarajan, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, Principal Secretary/Chairman, TNPCB, Shambhu Kallolikar, and Member-Secretary, TNPCB, D Sankar, were present in the award presentation event.
