The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) convened a meeting here on Tuesday to chalk out strategies to mitigate the effects of the coastal erosion that has affected various areas including Valiyathura and Kochuthura.

The discussion finalised precautionary steps to be undertaken across the coastal belt in the affected areas.

The Major Irrigation Department was entrusted with setting up barriers along the coast using sandbags.

The residents in the affected and vulnerable areas will be relocated to safer locations.

Granite boulders will be erected along the shoreline in Valiyathura following the completion of the tender formalities. V.S. Sivakumar, MLA, Thiruvananthapuram councillors Beemapally Rasheed, Sheeba Patrick, Deputy Collector (Disaster Management) John V. Samuel and others took part in the meeting.
