RAJKOT: The state power distribution company Pacchim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) that supplies electricity to Saurashtra and Kutch regions has set up teams to meet eventuality after the cyclone ‘Vayu’ strikes Gujarat coast. PGVCL will also taken help from its sister concern companies DGVCL, UGVCL and MGVCL.
PGVCL has deputed 634 teams in the areas which are likely to be affected by the cyclone including 49 teams of other discoms. Addressing media persons in Rajkot, energy minister Saurabh Patel said “We have stocked all the material at sub-division and division offices and are prepared to repair faults in shortest time.”
“Around 164 feeders have been identified which provide electricity to emergency service like hospital and water works. In case of power outage due to fault, electricity will be first restored in these 164 feeders so that emergency services won’t get affected,” Patel said.
Out of the 45 divisions of PGVCL, 14 fall under the area that is likely to be affected by the cyclone. It has 70 sub-divisions which covers 2,166 villages.

He also said that if a substation gets shut down due to fault, alternative substations have been identified to restore electricity as soon as possible.
However, no time has been fixed for shutting down power supply, but respective engineers will take decision at the appropriate time keeping in mind the safety and security of the people.
