The data are part of the Statistical Yearbook of Tourism, released by the Ministry of Tourism this week, based on information from the Federal Police. In the national scenario, there was also growth of 0.5% compared to 2017, with 32,606 more international tourists in Brazilian destinations.
Pernambuco (45.7%), Minas Gerais (44.8%), Ceará (44.1%) and Amapá (31.2%) corresponded to the states with the highest growth in international tourists last year compared to 2017 (2.2 million).
From the Northeast, Bahia and Pernambuco correspond to the states that had more growth in the arrivals of tourists from other countries.
In the North, Amazonas and Amapá are the highlights in international tourist demand.
In the Southeast, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro; in the South region, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná; and in the Center-West, Mato Grosso do Sul and the Federal District.
For the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, the data are an excellent reflection for the actions that the Ministry has been implementing over the past five months.
This growth, outside the São Paulo-Rio de Janeiro axis, demonstrates an advance in the diversification and qualification of the tourism offer of other states, improvements in the infrastructure of the region and promotion actions.
“In the background, the central point is the prioritization of Brazilian tourism in municipalities and states in an integrated and uniform management. In this sense, we live a unique moment, which offers an excellent opportunity to our country. President Jair Bolsonaro has placed the travel industry at the center of Brazil’s strategic agenda and we have tackled historic bottlenecks to the industry such as visa waiver and the opening of the market to international airlines. All this contributes to these results “, emphasizes the minister.
