Mahindra Roxor Gains A Newly Optional Six-Speed Automatic Gearbox

The Mahindra Roxor still isn’t street-legal, but it’s gotten a lot more appealing thanks to the addition of a newly available six-speed automatic transmission.

Saying “We shift you not,” Mahindra says the gearbox will learn your driving patterns and deliver “consistent performance regardless of the conditions you’re driving [in].”

Unfortunately, the option doesn’t come cheap as it costs $3,000 which increases the price of the model to $18,999. That’s a huge markup, even when compared to the Jeep Wrangler’s optional eight-speed automatic which costs $2,000.

To help promote the new gearbox, Mahindra is launching a limited edition Roxor A/T. Priced from $19,599, the model features a black matte grille, an extended roll bar and “Roxor A/T” logos on the hood.

Like the standard model, the Roxor A/T has a 2.5-liter diesel engine that produces 62 hp (46 kW / 63 PS) and 144 lb-ft (195 Nm) of torque. It is connected to the aforementioned transmission as well as a standard four-wheel drive system. Unsurprisingly, the model isn’t quick as it has a top speed of 55 mph (89 km/h). If you’re looking to use the Roxor’s 3490 lbs (1583 kg) towing capacity, you’ll be limited to just 15 mph (24 km/h).

The automatic gearbox will likely increase the Roxor’s appeal, but it’s a pricey addition to a model that lacks basics such as a windshield, a roof and doors. The model also lacks mirrors, a rear seat, a heater and a spare tire. All those items are optional and when added to the Roxor A/T, they increase the price to nearly $23,000.
