GURUGRAM: Around 400
residents of J block in the
Mayfield Garden township in Sector 51 are living in fear of losing
water supply anytime this month. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (
GMDA) had stopped supply on May 25 after the society failed to pay up maintenance fee. Residents are worried they will have to face the same situation again, as without an operational
RWA, their utility bills are pending.
Mayfield Garden is spread across 323 acres, and is divided into 13 blocks. The residents of J block are facing the crisis as there has been a delay in conducting election for their RWA. The total water maintenance fee for J block amounts to Rs 8,65,000, which is to be paid by end-June. Residents claimed the crisis is because of the delay in conducting RWA elections. The tenure of the previous RWA ended on May 1.
“Residents had to arrange money to pay the water bill last month. With no working RWA, we are unable to pay bills,” said Ashok Gulia, a resident.
The district registrar maintained the situation is a being carefully analysed and proper steps are being taken. “An administrator has been appointed to conduct the RWA elections in the society. We’ve not received any complaint regarding water or power supply from society residents,” said Ishwar Singh Yadav, district registrar, Gurugram.
The administrator was appointed on May 15. As per law, it takes 45 days to conduct an RWA election after the administrator is appointed. When asked about the delay, the administrator said this was because of a running dispute between two rival groups of residents. “We’ve asked for records from the previous office bearers, and can start the process soon,” said Mahaved Sharma, administrator for Mayfield Garden. The RWA has, meanwhile, agreed to submit official records for smooth functioning of the election.
