Allahabad University asked to put teaching recruitment in abeyance

Representational Image ALLAHABAD: At a time when the University Grants Commission has asked all the universities to fill the vacant teaching positions within the next Six months, MHRD has sent a letter to Allahabad University authorities asking them to put in abeyance the ongoing teaching recruitment process.
AU authorities had started the process for recruiting around 550 vacant teaching positions in the first week of March this year. The online recruitment process was initiated for filling up vacant positions in 47 departments. These include 327 positions of Assistant professors, 157 Associate professors and 66 positions of Professors.
AU had provided 10% quota for economically weaker section (EWS) scheme and this reservation was offered only for the post of Assistant Professor. In days to follow, number of applicants had filled the application through online mode and AU was conducting the scrutiny of the applications.
A highly placed source at AU informed that recruitment cell of AU had even prepared the list of shortlisted candidates for some of the departments and the list was submitted at VC's office for his approval. Once he would have given his approval, the selection committee could have been held as AU already has the names of Visitor's nominee with them.
However, the letter, signed by the Secretary higher education, MHRD, has instructed AU authorities to put the recruitment process in abeyance. The letter, dated June 11, was received at registrar's office on Tuesday.
The letter comes in wake of several complaints against the VC wherein fingers have been pointed out on the teacher recruitment that was done last year in several of the constituent colleges of AU.
Sources informed that the letter has asked the varsity authorities to submit the reply of the show cause notice, issued by the ministry to VC Prof Ratan Lal Hangloo couple of months back, and until then keep the recruitment process in abeyance.
AU's PRO, Chitranjan Kumar said that since he is out of station, he would not be able to comment on the issue.
