Noida: Three people were booked on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a petrol pump employee for denying them a fuel refill as they were not wearing helmets.
The trio was issued a challan under Section 151 of the CrPC . According to police, the incident happened on Tuesday morning when three men, identified as Sahadat, Zeeshan and Zahid arrived at a petrol pump in Sector 71 on their bike.
As neither was wearing a helmet, the petrol pump owner refused to give them fuel and informed them about the administration’s order that fuel would not be sold to two-wheeler riders if they are not wearing a helmet. This led to an argument between the two parties and they insisted that he let them buy fuel for their bike. As the argument went on the men caught hold of the pump employee and started fighting, police said. Police were informed through a call to the dial 100 helpline. A team from the Phase III police station was sent.
Phase III SHO Devendra Kumar said that the trio was taken into custody and issued a fine for breach of peace under CrPC 151 and will now be produced before a magisterial court. The district administration is running a “no helmet, no fuel”, campaign where two-wheeler drivers are not getting fuel at the petrol pumps if they don’t wear a helmet.
While the administration is going tough on violators, TOI had earlier reported that many riders try to demand fuel despite not wearing a helmet.
