MUMBAI:
Cyclone Vayu which has developed in the Arabian sea has further neared to Mumbai on its path towards Gujarat on Wednesday giving the city some light rains and
strong winds.
Strong winds swept across the city accompanied by rains in various areas, including Mulund, Powai and Bandra. IMD officials said that the current wind speed is 55kmph.
Areas like Mulund, Powai, Bandra have witnessed rains along with neighboring areas of the city like Thane as well.
Weathermen said that these were typical pre-monsoon conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains at isolated places for Wednesday. However, its unlikely to be a continuous downpour.
Weather officials said that fisherman warnings are already in place for the Maharashtra and Goa coast. "The fishermen are advised not to venture into Southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area,along & off Kerala and Karnataka. Those, who are out in deep sea areas are advised return to the coast," said IMD.
