Carlton fan cops warning as AFL tells fans: 'Barrack as loud as you can'
The Carlton fan who abused longstanding umpire Mathew Nicholls has been given a warning and the AFL has said no further action will be taken.
In a statement, the AFL confirmed Marvel Stadium security was alerted to a patron leaning over the umpire's race and abusing Nicholls as he was leaving the ground at halftime last Saturday.
"The patron has received a warning and no further action will be taken," the league said in a statement.
"The AFL’s message to everyone is clear - come to the footy, barrack as loud as you can, enjoy the game and do so in a responsible manner."
