Absence of platform attendants at many stations leave passengers confused

Commuters on board the Metro Rail had a harrowing time during late hours on Tuesday, reportedly owing to technical reasons.

An LB Nagar-bound train from Miyapur was stranded repeatedly at multiple stations, resulting in delay of over an hour, between 9 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. The train halted at Assembly station for over 10 minutes and at Moosarambagh for about 15 minutes, besides more than 15 minutes at Chaitanyapuri station.

Clueless passengers

Passengers had no clue of what was wrong, as there were no platform attendants too to explain. Enquiries with the station staff revealed that platform attendants have been removed for cost-cutting.

“It has taken almost an hour more than usual for me to reach. They kept announcing about technical failure, wherever the train stopped,” said Radhika, an employee who boarded at Errum Manzil station, to travel up to LB Nagar.

The speed of the train too was abysmal, with sudden breaks and jolts on and off, subjecting passengers to confusion.

In cascading effect, trains elsewhere too got delayed, and passengers were seen stranded at all stations. Staff at Chaitanyapuri station were heard telling the complaining commuters that the train towards Miyapur would be delayed by over half hour.

“They refused to reimburse our ticket price too when I wished to cancel my journey and board a bus,” complained Sameena Begum, at the station.
