Southern Railway's PCMO advises divisional officers to cash in on anticipated traffic growth

MANGALURU: Palakkad division of Southern Railway should strive to cash in on the anticipated growth in traffic that the launch of Chettinad Mangaluru Coal Terminal Project Pvt Ltd (CMCTPL) at New Mangalore Port will bring. The terminal will improve the coal loading at NMPT, S Anantharaman, principal chief operations manager (PCMO), Southern Railway said as part of the railway week celebrations of Southern Railway at Palakkad.
Anantharaman, who honoured officers and staff of Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram divisions for their exemplary service as part of the celebration on Wednesday, reminded them that the private coal siding coming up at New Mangalore Port is expected to be operational by next month and implored Palakkad division to be ready to handle the additional traffic. He also advised to explore new possibilities to enhance freight loading in the division.
The division can offer its freight customers station-to-station rate to attract additional traffic by offering freight discount. Division can also offer discount to freight that are moved in the empty flow direction, which is towards Vijayawada and on Konkan route, Anantharaman said, while stressing on the need for speedy unloading and prompt release of wagons. He asked divisional officers to hold meeting with FCI authorities in this regard.
Anantharaman was on a two day visit to inspect the stations and freight loading/unloading points of Palakkad division. Pratap Singh Shami, divisional railway manager, Palakkad division, Arulanandam Moses, secretary to principal chief operations manager, L Ashok Kumar, senior divisional operations manager, Palakkad division, Jerin G Anand, senior divisional commercial manager, other divisional officers and staff were present.
