CHANDIGARH: Manimajra police have arrested one person for allegedly stealing Rs 5 lakh from a house in Manimajra.
The police also claimed to have recovered Rs 2.5 lakh from his possession and other goods which he bought by using the stolen money. The police produced the accused before a local court which sent him in one-day police remand.
Ranjit Singh, SHO, Manimajra police, said the accused had been identified as Akash, alias Ashish, 19, a resident of Manimajra.
The SHO said Chunni Lal, a resident of Rajiv Vihar, Manimajra, reported in his complaint that he had kept a bag containing Rs 5 lakh in an almirah of his house. On Monday, when he checked his almirah, the bag was missing.
The police said the accused was a Class X pass-out and a
dance teacher. He gave dance classes to the children of the complainant and to others in New Indira
colony.
The police said Chunni Lal had raised suspicion on Akash after the theft. On his suspicion, Manimajra police apprehended Akash and during interrogation, he confessed to have stolen the cash from the complainant’s house. He was aware that Chunni had kept the cash in his house.
On further interrogation of the accused, the police recovered Rs 2.5 lakh from his house. He had, however, spent half the amount on buying shoes and electronic gadgets.
The police said they also recovered
13 pairs of shoes, four watches, one I-phone and one laptop from his possession. All these articles were bought by the accused from the stolen money.
The police produced the accused before a local court and obtained his one-day police remand on Tuesday. The police are expecting that more cases of theft would be worked out.
