NEW DELHI: 22
KYMCO - a joint venture between 22Motors and
Kwang Yang Motor Company - (KYMCO) on Wednesday announced its plan to set up a manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi, Haryana with an annual production capacity of 200,000 units.
The company also launched three products in premium maxi scooter segment for the Indian market including its electric two-wheeler offering – the iFlow priced at Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The other two models Like200 and the X-Town 300i ABS are priced at Rs 1.3 lakh and Rs 2.3 lakh respectively. All the three models will be available from September 2019.
Parveen Kharb, CEO and Co-Founder, 22Motors said, “Our strategy in the Indian market is aligned with the electrification targets of the government. We will have electric solutions in two-wheelers below 150 cc and petrol-powered options in the premium category.” In the first phase, the company will commence sales in six cities – New Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad – in 2019. Kharb said the company is looking at setting up at least 40 charging stations in each city to begin with.
KYMCO Chairman Allen Ko said India is an important market for the Taiwanese firm, particularly given the local government’s push towards
e-mobility. But he felt it would be challenging for manufacturers to electrify all two-wheelers below 150cc by 2025.
