Takshashila Arcade fire: SMC engineer on the run arrested

SURAT: Crime branch sleuths arrested V K Parmar, deputy engineer of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday, during investigation into May 24 Takshashila Arcade fire that had killed 22 students.
Parmar was among first to be suspended by SMC and he was on run since then. Police was hot on his trail but he had switched off his phone and escaped locking his house. Parmar was nabbed while he was trying to get legal help in city. Police were keeping eye on his movement and got specific information about his location.

Parmar was the junior engineer in Varachha zone when unauthorized construction in Takshashila Arcade was regularized after payment of impact fees. Police investigation revealed that Parmar did not care to do a spot inspection before approving the structure.
Police have so far arrested Bhargav Butani, owner of the coaching class, Harsukh Vekariya, partner in ownership of Takshashila Arcade, Jignesh Paghdal, administrator of building, S K Acharya, deputy chief fire officer, Kirti Modh, fire officer, Ravindra Kahar, partner in ownership of building, P D Munshi and Jayesh Solanki, former executive engineers of Varachha zone and Dipak Naik, deputy engineer, Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGCVL).
