"Yes, we have plans to host (hockey Olympic Qualifiers). If we are offered we will definitely host it," Dev told

"Next month, we are hosting the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships and in November we are also hosting We also submitted a bid (to AIFF) to host the U17 Women's Cup. Hosting international events is our priority," he added.

And Dev said there is no reason why Bhubaneswar can't be one of the host cities for the quadrennial extravaganza.

"If there is a confirmation then we have more than 10 years (to prepare for Olympics). The has said that if ever happens in India, Odisha and Bhubaneswar should be one of the most prominent places. Three cities can be picked and Bhubaneswar could be one of them," he said.

"Whatever we have done for the sport and the kind of priority we give to sports, we should be one of the venues for hosting Olympics," Dev added.

Highlighting the importance of in promoting the tourism industry of the state, the official cited last year's Hockey Cup as an example.

"The concept of tourism is something which Odisha pioneered. Every time you host a large event the tourism industry grows," Dev said.

Odisha was recently battered by 'Cyclone Fani', that caused the state a loss of around Rs 12,000 crores.

"When the cyclone happened the first thing that crossed our mind is whether we can host the event, whether we will be able to give it the due time that it deserves," Dev said.

"Odisha is a state battered by natural calamities year after year but the spirit of the people and the spirit of the state is very resilient. So we thought we will get the infrastructure up and running.

"We also wanted to pass across a message to the outside world that we are back to business and what better way than to welcome international teams," he added.
