CHANDIGARH: A local court acquitted one in NDPS case. The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of
Patiala.
The accused faced trial for offence under Section 21 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, for having found in conscious possession of 10 gram
heroin on October 10, 2017.
As per the police, the cops were patrolling in Sector 49, Chandigarh, to curb snatching and theft incidents. The police had set up a check post near the Sector 49 community centre. Around 4.45pm, the accused was seen coming from Sector 49C, who upon seeing the police party got perplexed and changed his direction. On this, the police got suspicious and apprehended him.
He tried to throw a polythene pouch from his pocket, but was caught. The police found 10
gram heroin in the polythene. The accused could not produce any licence or permit for carrying the contraband and was thus arrested.
However, after the arguments, the court acquitted the accused.
The court order reads: “It is held that the prosecution has failed to prove the offence beyond reasonable doubt against the accused. The accused is acquitted of the charge framed against him giving him the benefit of doubt.”
