Punjab: Eight quintals of spurious pesticide recovered in Jalandhar; 1 arrested

JALANDHAR: After agriculture department recovered eight quintals of spurious pesticide - Imdeclopreed 0.3 GR - on a tip-off, Adampur police have registered a case while driver of the vehicle has been arrested.

Divulging the details, chief agriculture officer Dr Naazar Singh said that the agriculture and farmers’ welfare department had busted a gang involved in supplying spurious pesticides to farmers by seizing eight quintals of spurious Imdeclopreed 0.3 GR pesticide on a tip-off. “The pesticide was being sold to the farmers in the name of Indian Crop Science Meerut, Uttar Pradesh and the farmers were being duped by selling the pesticide at cheaper rate,” he said.
The chief agriculture officer said that the company was not recognized by the agriculture directorate, Punjab for its operations in the state. “After seizing the pesticides it was sent to the Pesticides Testing Laboratory at Chandigarh where its samples had failed after which a FIR was lodged under sections 420, 274, 120-B of IPC."
