Students cry foul over evaluation

Pune: As the results for science students of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination has dropped this year, the students and parents are suspecting a flaw in the evaluation pattern this year. While the HSC mark sheets were handed over to the students on Tuesday, many alleged that the internal marks do not seem to have been added correctly to the total score.

While the day of results is usually a celebratory one, parents and students were mostly in tension about the allegedly flawed marks and future admissions. 

Confusion regarding practical marks
Many students at the colleges seemed unhappy as they said that their practical marks were not added to their score.

“Practical marks are not added in the final mark sheet that we got. Students who usually manage to pass with the help of internal marks are also now in big trouble. The college is not ready to show us our internal marks. They are more concerned about the reputation of college going down,” said a science student at Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce.

However, she added that since there is nothing much to do about it, she has accepted her fate. “But this will surely affect our further admission process,” the agitated student said.

Better marks in entrance tests
“Many students have scored much higher marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) but have scored very less in the Board examinations. We have scored low here only because of the problem in the internal marking system of the colleges,” said another student of Modern College.

“The students of Arts and Commerce would not face so much inconvenience. While Science students are spending a lot on the revaluation process and hoping to see their marks increased. It is going to be a long process but we don’t know whether the outcome will be positive or negative,” he added.

PCMB students tensed
“The students in the Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics (PCM) group are still a bit on the safer side as the PCM-Biology (PCMB) students are facing more issues due to the poor internal marking, as for them, the score of a whole subject has dropped. Revaluation seems more like a waste of time,” said a student of Fergusson College (FC).

However, while the issue continues to persist, the students at Arihant College of Arts, Commerce and Science, though distressed earlier, have been satisfied with the attitude of their professors.

“We were shown our internal marks by the college on our request. They answered our queries, as we were in a large group accompanied by our parents. All colleges are not doing so which is not fair for the students,” said a student from Arihant College.
