PANCHKULA: A
drunk driver allegedly thrashed a retired government medical officer and an associate professor in
Ambala Government College after hitting their vehicle from the rear in Sector 25 on Sunday morning in a case of
road rage, prompting the police to register a case on Monday.
Dr Gurmeet Singh Puri, the associate professor and a resident of Naya Bans, Ambala City, and Dr Rajesh Mohan, a resident of Ambala, said they were going in their Maruti Brezza car towards Ambala after meeting one of their friends in Sector 24. When they reached the market near Sector 25 around 7.30 am on Sunday, an unknown person in drunken state in his Maruti WagonR car came from behind and hit their vehicle four times. When both of them alighted out of their cars, the accused too stepped out and punched and kicked Gurmeet, the complaint alleged. Rajesh too was punched on the face when he intervened. He said his tooth broke. Passersby saved the duo from the accused and called the police.
Cops caught the accused, who was identified as Mukul Bansal, a resident of
Panchkula. Cops took the victims to the hospital and conducted their treatment. The medical examination of the accused too was conducted.
Local residents who had gathered at the spot told police the accused had misbehaved with a juice vendor and hit one more car before thrashing the two Ambala residents.
Police registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving on public way), 323 (punishment for voluntary causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the
Indian Penal Code at the Chandimandir police station.
