It was brought down by a windmill company: residents

Residents of Pottalurani in Srivaikuntam taluk on Monday demanded the arrest of agents of a windmill company who allegedly demolished a bus stop in the village.

During the weekly grievance meeting at the Collectorate, the residents alleged that the bus stop was brought down by a windmill company using a digger on May 29 as it was an obstacle to transporting their materials.

They said that the people had warned government authorities of their intention of destroying the bus stop. However, no action was taken to prevent it, they added.

J. Anthony Raj of Kamanayakkanpatti village in Kayathar taluk said that the road on car streets in the village had not been relaid, despite submitting a petition a year ago.

Following the previous petition, he had received a message saying ₹ 18.4 lakh had been allotted for construction of the roads and tender was called. However, the road remains in tatters as it had not been laid, he said.

S. Seetharaman of Bhagat Singh Mandram made a plea to allow farmers to use silt from Rameswaram kanmoi in Pillayarnatham village of Kovilpatti taluk.

He said that following a demand made to the Kovilpatti Tahsildar last year, he had sent a recommendation to publish the matter in the district gazette to allow them to take the silt.

“But action was not taken at the Collectorate to publish the matter despite repeated demands,” he added.

Members of Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangangalin Peravai, led by district president Vinayakamoorthy, demanded that the hike in property tax be revoked.

Members of the MDMK sought the weeding out of seemai karuvelam and encroachments along the Tamirabharani. They also wanted tanks to be desilted before the onset of the monsoons to augment water storage.
