Two boys charged over Sydney car park mugging
Police have charged two teenage boys with robbery after a violent assault on a woman who was trying to walk to her car on Sunday night.
The boys, both aged 14, approached the woman in a car park on Mount Olympus Boulevard in Wolli Creek, about 11.20pm, and demanded she hand over her bag, police said in a statement.
The woman, 21, attempted to walk away from the pair, but police allege they grabbed her by the arms and tried to yank the bag off her.
Police have confirmed CCTV footage circulating on social media shows the alleged assault.
In the footage, a boy wearing a sideways cap is seen hiding in the shadows as his friend exits a lift into the carpark.
The woman, wearing a backpack, can be seen trying to run past the boys before she is grabbed. In a different angle she can then be seen being thrown to the ground and dragged by the backpack, which is still attached to her.
Police allege one of the boys then kicked the victim multiple times in the stomach and chest until she let go of her bag. Both then ran from the scene.
Nearby security officers contacted police, who established a crime scene and commenced inquiries.
The woman was taken to St George Hospital to be treated for minor injuries to her stomach and back.
About 9pm on Monday, police stopped a vehicle on Broughton Street, Campbelltown, and arrested two teenage boys.
The boys were taken to Campbelltown police station where they were charged with robbery in company.
They were both refused bail and will appear in Campbelltown Children's Court on Tuesday.
