CHENNAI: To ensure no outstation candidate uses not only state quota of MBBS seats, but also the seats under the management quota in self-financing colleges, the state directorate of medical education has insisted on a series of documents including parent’s birth and education certificates, Aadhaar and ration cards.
The state prospectus for management quota, asks natives who has studied from Class VI to Class XII in schools of Tamil Nadu to produce the true copies of their parent’s certificates and community certificate to claim the communal reservation. If not, candidates will be considered as open category. It also says natives who have pursued Class VI-XII outside Tamil Nadu, party or completely, should also produce the true copies of their parents’ certificates failing which their applications will be rejected.
“Until now, we watched nativity for admission to government colleges and government quota seats in self-financing colleges. Last year, we noticed some candidates claiming admission under management quota based on linguistic and religious minority were not natives of the state. Applications were rejected at the counselling hall. To avoid confusions, we have added these in prospectus this year,” said selection committee secretary Dr G Selvarajan.
Several parents have been calling the directorate and medical colleges asking if they have to produce all the documents as mentioned in the prospectus. “I have my education certificates and Aadhaar. But I can’t find my birth certificate. I was worried it will affect my daughter’s admission process,” said K Senthil, a marketing manager for a private firm.

Another parent, who did his schooling in New Delhi, wanted to know if that would disqualify his son who studied his entire schooling in Coimbatore.
Selection committee officials clarified they would not insist on every document if the candidate is able to prove nativity.
