In an attempt to improve its network and familiarise with the area for the last mile connectivity for delivery of various goods, e-commerce giant Amazon is tying up with kirana shops in the rural areas of Visakhapatnam district.
‘I Have Space’ initiative
Amazon India Head-Prime Member Growth & Engagement Subbu Palaniappan told the media here on Monday that the company was foraying into the rural segments by forging partnership with small-time grocery shop operators, as a part of its ‘I Have Space’ initiative.
Stating that Amazon had more than 8,500 sellers in Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Palaniappan said more than 1,700 sellers were located in Visakhapatnam district. “One-third of our clients in India are members of Amazon Prime-availing bouquet of entertainment services on the small screen, along with hassle-free shopping experience with additional discount offers,” Mr. Palaniappan said.

Describing Andhra Pradesh as a crucial destination for Amazon.in, he said the firm had continued to invest significantly to improve its network.
“Not only cities, our market is slowly growing to tier II , towns and cities,” Mr. Palaniappan said.
Declining to divulge information on their turnover and number of clientele in India, Mr. Palaniappan said the Amazon Prime membership around the world had crossed the 100 million mark.
‘Better deal’
“We are committed to providing better choice of products at lesser price with minimum delivery time. Now, we have close to 200 Amazon-owned delivery stations, nore than 700 delivery service partner stations and around 20,000 ‘I Have Space’ partners across India,” he added.
