Junior Perth footballer punches umpire in retaliation after being dealt two red cards
A young female footballer who was dealt two red cards during a match over the weekend south of Perth retaliated by punching an umpire in the stomach.
The incident happened on Friday during a girls metro match between the Mandurah Mustangs and the Warnbro Swans, a month after the WA Football Commission issued two life bans following an ugly on-field incident at a another junior football match in Perth.
It’s understood a Mandurah player became disgruntled when she was given her first red card before becoming further agitated when a second was dealt.
An anonymous spectator at the match told WAtoday that Mandurah parents then became fired up and shouted obscenities towards the umpire for his judgment.
“The young girl punched the umpire in the stomach,” they said.
“The umpire is apparently one of the best and now he’s considering giving it up all together.
"It's pretty sad, he's pretty young."
It’s understood the West Australian Football Commission is aware of the incident and are investigating.
Mandurah Mustangs refused to comment.
The Peel District competition, which is involved in umpire inquiries, has been contacted.
