Tamil Nadu minister S P Velumani meets Amit Shah, seeks Rs 2,200crore grant

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu minister for rural and municipal administration S P Velumani met Union home mister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday and sought release of Rs 2,200 crore of performance grant that has been pending since 2017-2018.

This includes a grant of Rs 560.15 crore for the year 2017-18 and the second instalment of basic grant of Rs 1,608.03 crore for the year 2018-19 for rural and urban local bodies in the state under the 14th Central Finance Commission.
Velumani also sought sanction for two lakh houses under PMAY(G) Special Project in the cyclone- Gaja affected districts and to permit the state to sanction the houses to eligible affected beneficiaries irrespective of their community by relaxing the 60 : 40 (SC/ST : Others) ratio prescribed in the PMAY (G) guidelines by the ministry of rural development.
