Nagpur: Due to CBSE’s evaluation blunders, for the second year in a row, Nagpur witnessed a change in Std XII humanities topper post revaluation of answer sheet. Centre Point School (CPS), Katol Road’s Anupreeta Datey has now taken the pole position with 97.4% marks which came on the back of her political science and history subjects being revalued at cent per cent from the previous 95 and 97 marks respectively. Last year as well, CPS Katol Road’s Ishrita Gupta had emerged as the city topper in humanities after her political science marks increased by a whopping 22 marks post revaluation.
Though robbed of the ‘moment of glory’ on results day due to CBSE’s blunder, Anupreeta took it in her stride. “I am happy that the revaluated scores came in time for me to apply in universities of my choice,” she said.
When the results were initially announced, Anupreeta was in Bengaluru and the marks did not make sense at all. “I knew that there was no way I had scored 95 and 97 in political science and history. In fact, I was confident that there was not even a single error in both these papers,” said Anupreeta. Her mother Soma, who is a senior science teacher with almost 25 years of experience, too was confident that about her daughter’s performance. “When we heard about these marks initially, we were convinced that something is amiss. School’s principal Shilpee Ganguly too said that we need to go for revaluation and that’s how the process started,” said Datey.
Just like Maharashtra state board, CBSE too follows policy of giving photocopy of answer sheet to students before revaluation application is accepted. When the photocopies came, Anupreeta immediately spotted the mistakes by the valuator. “In political science, there was a question for four marks about World Bank and how it helps developing countries. They gave me only two marks even though all points were covered,” said Anupreeta.
The city’s new humanities topper stays away from the virtual world of social media, and prefers company of friends, family and books in the real world. For the immediate future, Anupreeta is looking forward to doing her Economics (honours) degree from Delhi University.
