PATNA: The district magistrate will be the appellate authority for the complaints related to violation of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. Earlier, principal judge of the family court was the authority to dispose of the appeals related to the violation of the Act.
Briefing media after the state cabinet meeting on Tuesday, cabinet department’s principal secretary Sanjay Kumar said the social welfare department’s proposal to nominate the district magistrate instead of the principal judge of the family court as appellate authority was cleared.
The decision was taken to expedite the process of disposal of the complaints lodged by parents being ignored by their wards within 15 days. While the block development officer is entitled to receive the complaints, the sub-divisional officer is supposed to verify the allegations within 21 days.
In another decision, the cabinet approved the general administration department’s proposal to bring the Old Age Pension Scheme under the ambit of Right to Public Service (RTPS) Act. The principal secretary said the decision was aimed at bringing about more transparency in the scheme for its beneficiaries. The officials have to dispose of the complaints within a time frame, he added.
The cabinet also cleared the proposal to appoint on compassionate grounds the next of kin of three martyrs killed in the Pulwama and Kupwada terrorist attacks. Ratan Kumar Thakur of Bhagalpur, Sanjay Kumar Sinha of Patna and Pintu Kumar Singh of Begusarai were martyred in the two terrorist attacks.
Kumar said the appointments would be made in Grade III and Grade IV on the basis of the educational qualifications of the applicants and that too on the recommendation of the widows of the slain cops.
