AHMEDABAD: As many as 13,000 seats have remained vacant after the first round of admissions to B.Com and other courses run by the Gujarat University. The courses in which the seats have remained vacant are B.Com, BBA, BCA, MBA and M.Sc (IT). The second round of admissions will begin from June 16.
The total number of seats on offer in these five courses were 46,000, but only 33,800 students secured admissions after the first round of online admission. Interestingly, 400 students who had scored relatively lesser marks did not get admissions because they opted for choices in colleges which have a higher cut-off for admissions.
The highest number of vacant seats were in B.Com courses with 12,139 seats yet to be filled. In the BBA courses, 127 seats remained vacant, 700 remained vacant in BCA courses and 11 seats remained vacant in M.Sc (IT) courses at the end of the first round of admission. Of the 13,000 vacant seats, 226 are in government run colleges, 6191 are in grant-in-aid colleges and 6690 are in self-financed colleges.
