Close Call With Sliding Van Force Driver To Take Massive Risk

Performing an evasive maneuver in traffic is a tricky proposition. When faced with an obstacle all of a sudden, drivers need to weigh the pros and cons of changing lanes and potentially veering towards oncoming traffic.

The latter scenario was already taking place here to a certain extent, because had the cammer remained in their lane, they would have been hit by the out-of-control van’s toppling trailer – definitely enough so as to ruin anyone’s day.

Taking a chance

While we’re happy to see the cammer narrowly escape a potentially bad accident, we can’t help but feel that steering left towards the other lane was a very dangerous decision to make, unless we’re missing something and our camera angle isn’t as good as what the driver could see with their own eyes.

But from where we’re standing, it really doesn’t seem anybody could have known for certain there wasn’t another vehicle trailing the van by a very small margin – small enough so as to make a frontal collision inevitable.

In fact, you can only see the road open up a split second after the dashcam vehicle clears the van’s trailer. It’s chilling just to imagine the worst coming to pass with this type of scenario.

But what do you think? Did the cammer do well to avoid the accident or would it have been wiser to just stay put and take the hit? It’s possible though that self-preservation will always push us to opt for a possibility over a certainty, no matter the risk.
