Teachers on protest path

Teachers owing allegiance to the Telangana State United Teachers Federation (TSUTF) district unit staged a dharna here on Tuesday in pursuit of their long pending demands.

Inaugurating the dharna, the TSUTF vice-president Chava Durga Bhavani accused the State government of alleged apathy towards resolving longstanding issues of teachers and addressing infrastructure deficiencies and shortage of teaching staff in State-run schools across the State.

She demanded that the government immediately release basic seniority lists of all cadres of teachers, settle medical reimbursement claims and ensure timely payment of wages to the staff of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and resolve all other longstanding demands of teachers forthwith.

TSUTF district president G.V. Nagamalleswara Rao alleged that the government’s indifference has hit the teachers hard depriving them of due promotions for a long period. The successful candidates of the Teachers Recruitment Test (TRT)-2017 are yet to get their appointment orders, he said, criticising the alleged inordinate delay in announcement of Interim Relief and the Pay Revision Commission (PRC).

Other speakers expressed resentment over several unresolved issues concerning teachers pending with the office of the District Educational Officer for long. They warned of an intensive agitation if the government fails to fulfil their charter of demands soon.
